The TEFL Buddhist Exchange program is similar to other Paradise TEFL programs in that it offers the same certification and coursework assignments and structure. In addition however, it provides TEFL teachers with the chance to learn and interact with a local rural population and Buddhist monk Pra Da Nai who will facilitate the Buddhist Studies portion of the course.

There are more photos interspersed with pictures of the rich cultural and natural environments on the photos link which shows several images of the Villa Style Paradise TEFL: TEFL-Buddhist Exchange is located in the beautiful Mae Sai Valley, famous for its incredible verdant green Teak forests, abundant rice fields, captivating orchid and butterfly farms and views of the mountains that stretch from here all the way to the Thai-Burmese border. facilities where the classes are taught and aspiring teachers stay in the Mai Sai Valley.

Be sure to take a look if you are interested to grasp the incredible beauty and modern comfort of these facilities.

This part of Thailand is known for its own distinct Northern style Thai cuisine and prized “Lanna-Thai” hand crafted culture.  In the heart of this is an amazing Buddhist Temple, which is more of a series of holy buildings and shrines highlighted by a 999 step pathway leading to the top of the mountain above the town’s famous Buddhist Chedi/Stupa. According to the head Abbot, the older chedi , houses ancient relics of several monks who served directly under the Buddha himself. People from as far away as Bangkok routinely make regular visits to the site to climb the stairs as a merit making pilgrimage and to

take in the sweeping views of Doi Pui and beyond.

A recently blessed brand new school campus sits adjacent to the temple area which serves to educate the rural population both young and old alike in the areas of Buddhist Studies, English Language Instruction, and Computer and IT technology.

Here Paradise TEFL students have the unique opportunity not only to study both Buddhist thought, history and Dharma with Theravada monks while developing a meditation practice, but also Teaching English as a Foreign Language to a eager population as they hone their practice teaching skills as a part of a cultural exchange process.

Many people chose to become educators because of the desire to be a force of positive change and “make a difference” for others the world over. More than ever, English is the language of economic opportunity and social networking. This is certainly also the case for those pursuing a career in teaching English as a second/foreign language. If you examine the basic Buddhist precepts, the idea of “Right Livelihood” is one which both Buddhist monks and Buddhist scholars refer to time and time again as part of the :eight fold noble path." Teaching as a lifestyle has its rewards, including long anticipated holidays, but it is also one means of achieving “Ethical Conduct” among a “noble profession” and serves as a potential or partial means of achieving enlightenment.

Teaching as a profession is perhaps one of the most conventional ways to obtain this kind of merit. But the profession also takes much mental development which also takes Effort and Concentration, two additional “right” paths for those interested in seeking self-improvement.
