Vocation, Vocation, Vocation

Vocation, Vocation, Vocation

(“There is no vacation without it.”)

As the American revisionist economic policy (here to known as “operation twist and bend”) continues its regrettable apparently unrelenting downward spiral of the old world and new world middle class status quo, it triggers fall out not only in the United States, Great Britain and Australia, but sends economic shock waves worldwide.  In order to breathe life into a brave new global economy, the US Fed and ECB will have to begin to deal with the continuing effects of outstanding debt and credit default which could potentially limit the United States and European economic recoveries. In the meantime, the unemployed numbers of youth continues its precarious rise across nations and kingdoms from around the planet.
With consumer demand now consistently being driven down, the previous desire for cheap exports is also slowing and causing what now appears to be a “less than soft” landing in China, which is coming in for a somewhat harder than previously anticipated with Chinese economic expansion targets being scaled back (from 7.6% to a rate of 4.6 % from estimates a year ago).

In most of the western service based economies, job employment appears to have now peaked, with another round of lower than anticipated employment/unemployment job figures and possible deepening recession looming,  the opportunity for advancement of the American and European middle class seems to be a consistently diminishing and less obtainable on a global scale than previously hoped. (What are the futures of the people in countries in such jeopardy? Battles for democratic systems remain uncertain in many parts of the Middle East and across the African Continent.)

With  the amount of debt in the US and Europe extended to China and various other privatized corporate and banking entities, many western countries continue to hold less and less of the “economic vault” as the richest percentages of the world’s elite citizens quibble and argue over the last of the cheap international resources and semi-skilled labor markets.

This trend appears to leave many well educated, once upwardly mobile Westerners wondering where all the “good” jobs at home and wondering about tomorrow as the cost of living and price of daily necessities continue their advancement higher in 2012-13.

No major inflation? An independent survey of US consumer price increases (rounded off to the nearest whole number) from Jan 2011-Jan 2012 found:

o   Dairy up 25%

o   Gasoline and Oil up 20%

o   Food and Sundry items up 15%

Meanwhile over in the emerging markets of Southeast Asia, Unifying ASEAN nations continue to increase their productivity and suffer only modest levels of price inflation.  The estimated growth rate for Singapore (for example) continues to expand in 2012 and is believed that the growth will persist at a rate of 7.5- 8.5% in that nation this year, while the rate of inflation is estimated to be no greater than 1-3% for most of the entire region of South East Asia.

In Korea, China as well as South East Asia, the demand for English speaking workers continues to expand along with the continued growth of their more nimble and well situated economies.

The need for teachers is still expanding and is predicted to do so in stable economies in Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand and Vietnam where their citizens continue to produce parts and products to meet the needs of a rising “Asian middle class” at home and abroad.  At the same time, emerging market nations like India, Myanmar/Burma, Cambodia and Laos continue to open up more and more to investment and industrial development throughout the entire region.

Perhaps it is now time to ask yourself “When would be a better time to become a teacher of English? “
